Happy Birthday Google!
If you hadn't noticed, Google is officially a teenager today! Google celebrates it's 13th year crawling the web for the most relevant information for it's users. I remember the days when Yahoo was my search engine of choice, but Google started to give me better options for what I was searching for. During my college years it was important to be a quick and efficient searcher, I had about 4 papers due a week! Google won that challenge making things easier on me and they have been ever since.
As an online marketer, Google Analytics and Google Web Tools make up a lot of my day. Analyzing what visitors do, where they come from and what they are looking for. It is amazing the information that Google provides webmasters. Not to mention the power of their branding on the kids today. When taking a break, reading some "Failbook" blogs, I notice how many people use Google in their social jargon with friends, how many times have you heard someone say "Google it"? Kind of how we say "Kleenex" instead of tissues, or "Clorox" when we mean bleach and even "Thermos" instead of insulated drink container. "Google" is now that comfortable term for online search.
When is your birthday? Google will give you a warm welcome when you log into your profile on your special day. The paragraph below was pasted from the Official Google Blog from almost a year ago when they added the feature for it's profile users. Although, Google has acquired a few million more profiles since this post.
"A birthday surprise
Because doodles are such a fun part of the search experience, we thought we’d share a fun little way Google will help celebrate your birthday. When you include your date of birth on your Google profile, you may notice a special treat on the Google homepage on your birthday (be sure to sign in). Click on the doodle for another birthday surprise!"
Thanks Google, and Happy Birthday!
